Why I Joined Phi Sigma Kappa

Brother Ryan Rali

“I knew I was going to join a fraternity when I first came to NIU, but I had to decide which one. Then I met a couple of guys from Phi Sigma Kappa and they gave me a tour of the house and I was amazed. All the guys were welcoming and friendly. They showed me everything they phi sigs had to offer me, and all the awards that they have won through athletics, sholarships and results of campus voting. Joining this fraternity has been one, if not, the most important decision of my life.”

Brother Jermain Hall

“I joined Phi Sigma Kappa for many of the attributes that the fraternity achieves in and being a brother of Phi Sigma Kappa, transforms you into the best gentlemen you can be for the rest of your life. In the near future, I plan on having a business of my own, and managing others. I believe that being a brother of Phi Sigma Kappa, will help me attain my full potential and grow into an excellent leader. Not only can I count on my brothers for as long as I live, but they also know that they can rely on me for anything that may be occurring. Attaining brotherhood, building character, and achieving scholarship is the reason why I became a brother of Phi Sigma Kappa.”

Brother Johnny Mililli

When I first arrived at Northern Illinois University I was a bit skeptical at first. I had just transferred in from the College of DuPage and didn't know many people. Being a junior I thought it would be difficult to make friends because I believed that everyone already established their specific clicks. I was given a tour by a group of people and they took me down to Greek row. I approached the largest and nicest looking house on campus and found that it belonged to the gentleman of Phi Sigma Kappa. When I arrived I was immediately greeted with friendship, kindness and open arms. I could feel these were guys I wanted to hang out with and get to know. They were so welcoming and kind to me even though I didn't know anybody. I joined Phi Sigma Kappa for the friendship and stayed for the brotherhood.

Brother Griffin Curcio

When I first came to NIU as a freshman, I was unsure about joining a fraternity. Whenever I heard about fraternities I assumed that they were the same as they are portrayed in the movies. However, in the fall of 2010 an older friend from my hometown was a member of Phi Sigma Kappa and invited me over to check out the house. I stood in awe at the incredible mansion that 50+ best friends were able to live together. After talking to a few of the guys, I realized that we shared similar interests and that Phi Sigma Kappa was considered to be the best fraternity on campus. Needless to say, I was hooked. I had never even taken a step into another fraternity and I already knew this was the place for me. Becoming a member of Phi Sigma Kappa was one of the greatest decisions of my life. The benefits I have gained are endless and the relationships I have built will last a lifetime. Damn Proud!”

Brother Mathew D. Wellington

"I was so excited to be at NIU my first couple of days! I had transferred from a community college in Denver Colorado and was ambitious to get more involved in a way that hadn’t been offered before, and I was curious about joining a fraternity. My friend introduced me to one of the older guys and we went on a tour of the house. Everyone seemed to be having a great time for a weekday afternoon. I decided to look into some of the other fraternities on campus but they weren’t even comparable to what Phi Sigma Kappa had to offer. I was given a bid and made the best decision of my life in pledging, and eventually initiating in the spring of 2012. Since then my Grades have improved, I have been put on the board of elections for the Student Association Senate, involved in red riot and I am on the executive board of CEO, not to mention I have been given countless opportunities that I never would have received if I hadn’t joined PSK. The relationships I have made with my brothers will last a lifetime, and are truly priceless. I never would have expected my life to be heading the direction it is, and I can say I am a better man because of my involvement with Phi Sigma Kappa."

Brother Jose Gonzalez

"Coming into NIU I had no intent on joining a fraternity because of all the stereotypes that are portrayed on TV. My perception quickly changed the moment I stepped out of my car on dorm move-in day and had a group of guys help me move in and were the most genuinely nice guys I ever met. I have always been a good student, but when I joined Phi Sigma Kappa I realized my limits were higher than I expected. I found out I had a passion for community service, I studied harder than I ever had and I became an all-around better person. Now, I am a member of NIU’s honors program, a Senator of the Student Association (SA), and I am on the Executive Board of many NIU organizations, including CEO and Red Riot. It’s safe to say that I would not have had all these opportunities without the support of my fraternity brothers. Joining Phi Sigma Kappa was easily the best decision I’ve ever made."

Brother Husam Salem

"Coming into college the last thing I ever thought I would end up doing was joining a fraternity. Nonetheless I thought it wouldn’t hurt to give them a chance so I went down Greek Row and checked out several other fraternities before I decided to look into Phi Sigma Kappa. While walking home from a different party and a member was standing outside and saw my friend and I walking and invited us for a tour of the house and introduced us to several members. I met the guys and thought they were really cool, and were people I could see myself getting to know better in the future. Then I came by a couple times, found out all the scholarships they offer, how much fun the guys were and how much they liked getting things done. I later got offered a bid and made the best decision of my life and rushed Phi Sigma Kappa. DAMN PROUD!"
